The author/s collected data from purposively drawn samples of early-career engineering professionals (ECEPs) using a cross-sectional survey. The purpose of this study is to map the implications and competencies for Industry 4.0 to the hard and soft aspects of total quality management (TQM).
This is one of the first articles to employ a systematic review of the literature using Methodi Ordinatio to build a bibliographic panorama on the intertwining of the themes total QM (TQM) and I4.0, focusing on the emerging concept of TQM 4.0. This study provides an ecosystem model that can guide future research, regarding the concept of TQM 4.0, in addition to pointing out some ways of combining technologies, quality and people in the industrial context. This article presents a systematic review of the literature, but without delving into specific issues such as the different industrial sectors and the culture of countries in which industries may be inserted, for example, which characterizes a limitation of this research. The results demonstrate that when adapting the QM to the technologies of I4.0, the result is an ecosystem that supports the integration between technology, quality and people in the industrial scenario.

The purpose of this article is to explore the new concept of TQM 4.0 as a way of adapting quality management (QM) in Industry 4.0 (I4.0), guiding industries to this new phase, which has generated adaptations in numerous areas, one of which is QM and human resources.Ī systematic review of the literature was carried out. This insight helps managers to make informed decisions when choosing a mix of management methods that fits their purpose best. DT could assist public managers in finding new solutions to known problems and TQM could be used to institutionalize change. Still, the paper argues that the two management models could well be combined – e.g. That is not to say that DT and TQM are the same, for instance their tools are different. For example, they share core values like user-centeredness, stakeholder commitment, cooperation, etc. The article compares DT and TQM and finds that they are surprisingly similar. The main aim of this paper is two analyze when public managers should employ DT and when they should use TQM in creating public value. Yet, public managers need a clearer understanding of DT and TQM and how they relate to each other. The explosion of DT in the public sector resembles the fast adoption of Total Quality Management (TQM) a few decades ago. Finally, the findings can help managers to prioritize firms' soft and hard quality practices that promote I4.0 implementation, especially in emerging economies. In a nutshell, the SEM-ANN approach uniquely contributes to the TQM and I4.0 literature.
The ANN results affirmed that customer focus is considered an important TQM factor for I4.0 managerial readiness, advanced manufacturing technology for operational readiness and top management commitment for technology readiness.
Moreover, the results highlight that hard TQM practices have mediating role between soft TQM practices and I4.0 readiness. The results show that the soft and hard TQM practices have supported the I4.0 readiness. Second, the artificial neural network (ANN) technique was adopted to rank the relative influence of significant predictors obtained from SEM. First, the SEM approach was used to determine which variable significantly affects I4.0 readiness. Unlike the existing TQM studies that used structural equation modeling (SEM), a two-stage analysis was performed in this study. Based on the sociotechnical systems (STS) theory, a framework has been developed and validated empirically through an online survey of 209 Malaysian SMEs manufacturing firms. Thus, this study aims to empirically examine the effect of the multidimensional view of TQM (soft and hard) on I4.0 readiness in small and medium-sized (SMEs) manufacturing firms.
